Preparing Your Broil King® Gas Grill for Winter
At Broil King®, we don’t believe that grilling is only for summer! Our gas barbecues are engineered to withstand diverse weather conditions, ensuring you can savour the thrill of grilling even during the colder months. However, to guarantee the longevity and optimal performance of your barbecue, it’s essential to know how to prepare your Broil King® gas barbecue for winter. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the key steps to keep your Broil King® gas grill in top condition this winter in Spain and Portugal!
Cleaning Your Gas Grill
Leaving food remnants in the grill over winter can attract unwanted guests like rodents, as well as accelerate the growth of mould and allow moisture to build up, leading to corrosion of your grill. Conducting a thorough cleaning of your barbecue is crucial, so be sure to follow these steps in our article here.
We highly recommend investing in some quality brushes to extend the life of grates and flavourisers. We have a range of Broil King® brushes to choose from.
Extend the Life of Grates
After you have cleaned your grill, generously coat the cast iron grates and flavourisers with cooking oil on both sides. Remove these elements from the grill and store them in a dry, warm room, especially if the grill is outdoors, to help protect it against any inclement weather.
Preservation with Cooking Oil
After cleaning, go ahead and coat the inside of the grill with cooking oil. This protective layer of oil will help to prevent rusting and ensure the prolonged life of grill elements, especially those made of stainless steel. Use a greased towel to cover stainless steel elements such as doors, side shelves, the control panel, and the grill cover. Avoid excessive cleaning without re-coating elements, as this can lead to corrosion.
Safe Storage of Gas Cylinders
Always remember to turn off the gas cylinder, disconnect the gas pressure reducer and never store gas cylinders in closed rooms. If the grill will be stored outdoors, leave the gas cylinder in the grill for winter. If storing in the garage, we recommend keeping the gas cylinder in the garden.
Battery Protection for Igniters
Broil King® grills use battery-powered igniters, however, low temperatures can potentially damage the batteries, so we recommend removing them during winter and reinserting them before use. Unscrew the black button to remove the battery in the grills with a rubber button igniter. In models with a metal button, the battery is under the control panel. Follow the instructions on the igniter cap for reinstallation.
Proper Grill Covering
Invest in a high-quality barbecue cover, such as Broil King® Premium or Select, to protect your grill from snow, wind, and other weather conditions. If you already have a cover, learn how to care for it to ensure its longevity.
Storage Considerations
Broil King® grills are made of high-quality materials, suitable for garden storage under a cover. Opt for Broil King® Premium or Select series covers for maximum protection. These covers withstand all seasons, making them a wise investment. If space is a concern, fold the side shelves for winter.
Garage or Gazebo Storage
For optimal protection, store the grill in the garage or gazebo. Ensure the grill is in good condition before the summer grilling season.
Following these steps guarantees your Broil King® gas grill will emerge from winter in excellent condition, ready for another season of delightful grilling!
